Since I have started using RSE I am using PSE less and less. However, I find that I still need to open files in PSE after RAW conversion to crop/resize and sharpen. How are others handling this issue when using RSE? Unless the photos need other touch-up like the healing brush or cloning out of distracting items, I would prefer not to have to take this additional step.

Another option I have considered is purchasing Qimage for prepping the images for print/web - could it perform these crop/resize and final sharpen functions? While I would still be using different programs it might be faster than dealing with PSE. I can see where such a workflow would be much more efficient than what I currently do.

Thanks for any thoughts on this!

One small hitch I see with RSE. The image on the RSE preview screen looks lighter than the image I see when imported into PS-CS, though a simple S curve does the trick. The images are 16-bit TIFF's in AdobeRGB color space. I wonder why this is happening.

When I use ACR to convert raw -> tiff in PS-CS, there's no such problem, obviously because the products are tightly integrated. Anyone seen this happening?

Could it be because of my gamma settings? I'm on a PC but with a 1.8 gamma. Hardly likely, but there could be something there.

Said elsewhere that commercial version of RSE should have crop resize etc which will solve your problem. What 'album' software do you use? I use ACDSee 7 which allows 'printer only' sharpening as does QImage.

Thanks, Sam. I suspected as much. Guess I will wait to see where it goes. Hopefully the pricing is reasonable.

I am just using the Organizer software in PSE which works quite well and is similar to the ACDSee trial version.

I see exactly the same thing. Not sure why it is happening, but it certainly is. I simply apply a curve to bring it up to spec. in PS CS.

In my case between RSE 1.1.2 and PS CS.

Anyone any ideas ? I.e. what does PS CS do display wise that RSE doesn't ?

Cheers

Ian

Don't have PS only PSE3 but what you notice in lightness is same for me - the histograms of the same RAW in PSE3/RSE are, of course, wildly different????
