My family and I are heading for Bar Harbor, ME in Sept. Any tips and must-sees for Acadia and the surrounding area? I want to make the most of my time and shoot as much flora/fauna and landscape as I can. Thanks all!

The scenic drive(s) through Acadia are good, including going up to the top of Cadillac Mountain. Many people go there for sunrise, just to be the first in the US to see the sun. All up and down the coast of Maine you will find good scenery. Be sure to drive around the Schoodic Peninsula, just north of Bar Harbor. If you are into history and have the time, visit Campobello Island, where FDR had a cottage. It makes a nice tour, but is quite a drive from Bar Harbor. The town of Bar Harbor has some historic buildings, too, and some great boats. The schooner that is usually docked there is beautiful. There are also some boat tours, for puffins or whale watching. Those should be good. The Bass Harbor lighthouse is classic, and there are other lighthouses along the coast. When you've done all that, let me know and I'll tell you about Boothbay Harbor, Portland, Kennebunkport, etc, etc.

Been to Maine many times now and keep going back! The previous poster summed it up pretty good. The coast of Maine is fantastic. Definately visit Schoodic one day before a storm rolls in...the waves are incredible! On your way up to Maine, if you're driving, stop to see the Nubble Lighthouse and Portland Headlight...two good ones among many others.

Check out my gallery of Maine for different ideas... http://vtphotography.zenfolio.com/p11010454

It's simply gorgeous -- get out onto the rocks at sunrise and sunset, shoot the boats coming in with their sails billowing, get the lighthouses...

Maine is one of my favorite state. Maine in the fall is breath taking. Start researching GND filters and your pictures will also take your breath away.

Maine is an amazing place. People usually go to Cadillac mountain for sunrise. Depending on the weather even sunsets can be quite dramatic. Since you have enough time to plan check out this book by David Middleton.

QFE!

Amazon has a few inexpensive books on Acadia that make for worthwhile research. I liked the two below - great for photography research.
