Max- I was in the same position as you.... I wanted control of my website, but didn't know how to build one, nor had the money to pay someone to build something with flash.
www.dynamod.com is a service that I use.... It's pretty easy to use, and you can customize a lot of it yourself. They provide webhosting as well. I haven't had any problems with it since I started it back in Sept.
I'd suggest that you check it out. Good luck!

Livebooks are awesome, great to work through the design process of a site with them, the backend of the websites are easy to use and update and the hosting seems very good from my experience .... not cheap though.

Showit sites looks to be a nice platform if your quite creative and want to do your own thing but ive seen a few sites where people havent really understood how much bandwith it takes to show their site in a nice way and in those cases the user experience can be poor.

I'm looking to do the same, and the showit site looks like a easy start for not spending tons of hours in DW or any other program.
Does anyone reading this have any first hand experience with showit?

i used the trail version the other day made a video in 10 mins with 50 images, with music and simple transitions. Then posted it to utube...placed it on a website and made a exe. copy on desktop..all quick and easy

We've been using Showit Sites since it was in beta. Highly recommended! You can change the entire look and feel of your site whenever you'd like at no cost. If you can work Photoshop, you can work Showit Sites. There is ZERO coding involved....it's one heck of a WYSIWYG design platform.
Jon is right on though....a lot of folks are in-experienced when it comes to content on a site....most importantly videos. It's so hard to cater to all internet connections, but when you know the limits then it becomes so much easier.
