Macro DSLR Speed Challenge #21

Spiders

You all know what they are, what they do. You know many people just get the willies looking at one. Yet they are some of the most delicate art work makers ever known to man spinning the strongest material pound for pound on this Earth.

So, your "Challenge" this week includes them. You can take a photo of them in a web or out of a web, just moseying about in the wild or trapped indoors. But what I really encourage is "Closeness", as thats what it's all about....

New, or previously taken is fine, just please make sure we have not seen it before. As I visit these forums quite regularly, I'll know if I seen it.

So be creative kids, capture my eye with the Best of The Best.

Good luck One and All entrants.

Congrats Lester!

I have to say, I loved Monty's. That little green guy made me laugh hanging out upside down. Nice, very nice. A good giggle always gets me.

Only saw ONE spider all week...and it was ON me and I didn't have my camera. Thought about squishing it and bringin' it home for a little photo shoot........

Great shot Lester. Nice focus, lighting, DOF and composition.

Drchrisdvm, yours really creeped me out. I salute you for getting that close to one of those things.

Monty, I have to ask... was that a PS merged photo? As Pennypue said, he was a cute little guy, but something on the DOF didn't seem to mesh between him and the leaf. Maybe it's just my eyes.

No time for me to play with the camera this past week. I was trying to nurse one of my 18 year old kitties back to health. He scared me last week. I thought I was going to lose him a couple of times, but he's rebounding pretty well, thank goodness!

A quick and dirty job with the "Dust and Scratches" filter -- was trying to get one up before the contest finished (I realize now I was a day late anyway!!!)

Great work everyone and congrats Lester Wareham.

Having a fear of spiders, this contest just freaked the heck out of me. And having arachnophobia, my main question is, "Where the heck did you find these things??!!!??" (and please don't tell me in your backyard). I definitely want to avoid those places...;)

Skin still crawling...

Actually spiders are one of the most commonly found critters on the planet...if I dismember correctly there are something around 10,000 spiders per acre. Look in dense bushes, around the eves of your house, all manner of places.

I found a couple but, hey w/o an MPE it's really tough to get the ones I found. They wuz teeeeny and I killed the last big black one I found living in the bedroom, I actually HEARD the thing jump from a shelf when it landed on some paper, that is not gonna help their survival rate around here...killed that leetle bastage with a shoe from 20' away!! Yes, I am creeped out by spiders... :D I know they are so very important but, well, something between the size of a quarter and half-dollar is NOT going to live if I find it in the house...ever!

BTW, I make myself watch Arachnophobia at least once a year because if I was in that basement covered in spiders, I would just die then and there...

And CONGRATS to Lester...your shots are ALWAYS so wonderful...and this one was really interesting and I loved the title!

BTW, Monty...ya missed out with the perfect title "Gravity Works??" ;)
