View Full Version : Buy a new lens - Post a new picture!

I'd like to put forward a challenge. Anyone posting saying they just got some great new lens should also follow up with an example picture. (yes I know there is a photos section!)
It really helps me to see how others photos look. (Besides I love to see them.) Share the excitement. So if you get a new $2500 super duper Tokigmanonaron DXFii ES 5-2000mm f0.2 lets see it.;)
After all, we are talking digital here most of the time and it doesn't take much to jpeg them down.

Sounds like a good deal! Also, it might be kinda col if you are replacing an older lens of the same length to post a set of "out with the old, in with the new" pictures of the same composition. Might be kinda neat to see. So if you replace a kit lens with a 17-40, take a shot at 20mm or 40mm with each lens. I have a nifty 50 and a teleconverter on the way, look for some shots.

No lie I bump this request. Oh and that lens, I have one, but the f/0.2 depth of field is really limiting.

I got off work, saw a B&H box delivered to my door. I knew it was my new baby. Put it on my 300D and went out of my apartment to test it. (i'm an extremely impatience guy, especially when my goodies just arrive). Then after a few tree shots, saw this beautiful sunset, took 3 shots with different f-stop. After seeing the results, love that new lens already. :D

Steibeldj,
That's a really good idea and something I was meaning to do. I updated my post on the other forum with pictures taken through both of my new lenses (Nifty Fifty and the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 ). You can see them at this thread:

Excellent. I have heard a lot about the Nifty Fifty and have been tempted to get one. I keep playing with low light situations as I was inspired in college by a friend who took some tripod open shutter portrait pictures in the dark. Please post a low light Nify Fifty for me under the title "Low light experiments". I am trying to get that concept to fly.
Moderator: Actually, I would love to see a section for low light and other style/conditions. (fireworks, campfires, indorrs at home, sports, concerts) I have learned a lot from everyone here. Any chance?

Not my work, but I guy I work with has some pics that he took with his new Nifty Fifty (got his pretty much the same time as mine) at a concert this past weekend. He's got them posted on flickr. Will give you an idea of what the lens can do at WOA and ISO 1600.

Well here it is for me. 10-22mm EF-S. both shots were done in the same light and position. Taken about 4 inches form the mirror. First was 10mm, second was 22mm. Dying to take some outdoor shots. Man is this sucker wide. Love the usm.

Wow... those are some nice shots!
I'm going to be shooting some bands this Saturday night, using my Nifty Fifty and my 85mm f/1.8 for the first time in that environment. The pictures your friend took give me hope!

My widest lens is canon 20 -35mm and I love the indoor room shots I can get with it. (I am hoping to do some house tours with it.) I some a post of someone with an 8mm fisheye. Not my style.

I am amazed that i was 4 inches form my mirror and still could get the coverage that wide. COME ON DAY OFF!

Well, circular fisheyes are no doubt difficult to master, but you can take some really unique images with them. This was shot with a Minolta 7.5mm f/4 Circular Fisheye, and won my my local club annual comp for the "creative/experimental" category.

It was just resized and yes I was about 10 feet or less away. Our local state park has roaming gators. This one did hiss at me. I was really careful though.

I just picked up the EF-S 10-22 today. Wow, this thing is wide. :) This tank was about 6 feet in front of me. Lense was at 13mm.
It wasn't a very nice day out. So I didn't get many shots.

Hold the camera/lens to your eye and try walking around the room,it's a great party trick,
Allthough i do suggest a cheapo fisheye attachment instead of a multi thousand dollar combo:eek:

I know most lenses can do macro, but are not real macro lenses. How about the 50mm 1.4? I have a Quantaray Tech-10 50mm f2.8 with macro that I would love to trade up to the Canon. Don't want to lose the macro capability though.

if you want 50mm, canon has a 50/2.5 Compact Macro lens. $239 at B&H

No there is no macro setting. It sharp as all get out and quick as hell, but its not a macro.
