This was taken today with a Canon 300D, 1/400, f/5.0 using my 50mm 1.8 Lens. My Brother LOVES boats and dream one day of owning one So as i drove past a marina today i took this pic for him.

Whats wrong with it theres just something i can't put my finger on that looks odd to me. I have place an Adobe PS Monotone action on it as he love the soft black and white look. I like it but i don't if you know what i mean...lol. Does the thick black rope at the front of the pic put you off?

Love to hear your thoughts on this one

Its too soft for my eyes, it kind of makes me feel like my vision is going. It also looks like a giant rain cloud is covering the scene so it could be made a bit brighter. It is a really good image and works in B&W or Color but the softness is too much to me, Id rather see it naturally. Good job though.

Yeah i was VERY overcast and had been pouring rain all monring when i took this so the sky was very dark. Here is the the original whihc i have lighten a tad and bumped the contrast by 10%.

My brother likes the really soft look of that black and white and so do i on portraits of my kids but i agree is the wrong look for this pic, maybe just a stright B & W conversion is all it's needs

I like the color in that one. Very nice picture. I like it because of all the lines and being a land lover, I've only seen maybe one or two boats that size and a huge lake. Very nice. Hope you don't mind but here are a few other things I tried in PS CS. The first one I inverted (made it a negative) and the second one I just raised the layers.

That big black rope is actually a rolled up sail :)

i agree, the softness amkes my head spin. how about just a straight B&W conversion? its a cool shot, i like the lines. good job

overcast-my favorites! i agree with smittymike19-the first one makes my eyes cross but i'm also myopic. i think the second one works wonders. the 4th one looks like you're trying to make it a nice bright sun shiny day when it isn't.

Hey guys, I took a stab at it. I chose this filter that's called "Newspaper". It's a great shot and this was just fun to play with.

I like the picture, but not the first one you did. Too fuzzy, maybe if you just leave it color the larger picture is really sharp.

I like it. Especially what CJM did with it. Brought the color and contrast out.

This is what it would look like b&w with contrast moved up a wee bit and britness lowerd. Such a wonderful picture you took Vicki I might paint it some day on canvas its so neat.

Vicki76, nice pics. To disable your automatic image resizing in WinXP, go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced Tab, under multimedia, uncheck the enable automatic image resizing. This will let you view the picture as it truly is. The only problem is that even if you are using 1280 x 1024 you will still have to scroll up and down and left to right to view the complete image in Internet Explorer. For this reason most people tend to leave the resizing on the default setting.
