I have been keeping track of my battery life lately, and my 20D has taken 1175 shots since the last time I charged the battery and it still has juice left!!!
I knew the battery life was good, didn't think it was THIS good.
What is the most anybody has shot on a single charge?

I seldom shoot more than several hundred shots per day, and then the first battery goes back into the charger.

You could say that my comment is re-volting.

Yes, I thought you would get a charge out of that.

Yes, the 20D battery life is sensational. It was a pain on my old Sony, which would only manage just over 100 shots of full res mode, before the battery is dead.

Now the 20D, I've sometimes used it over 3 or 4 seperate days, and done a total of just over 1400 shots once, and it still wasn't near flat, but charged it anyway, just to be safe. I even managed about 900+ with lots of flash usage and night longer exposures, and still had some juice left then. With 2, 1Gb CF cards, which take between 600-1050 shots together depending on the subject, it's a surprise I went and bought two batteries. Wouldn't mind buying a battery grip, see how the vertical options go, and see if I can scrape through 2,000 shots. :D

My last photo,is from Sunday, from the WRC of New Zealand, and that was shot number 18,720... Not bad for a camera only 10 weeks old.

No, you have lost a circuit, and need your flux capacitor...
And a DeLorean...

Bob's comments seems a little over charged, but are still quite electrifying in an exothermic way. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif

I would like a battery grip too, but it seems like a lot of problems that people experience with their 20Ds are related to the battery grip. I've had a few er99s, but most were my fault (6 year old sigma lens) and they always cleared just by taking out the main battery, which I can do in about 2 seconds, even on the tripod mount. Anyone else think that the battery grip contributes to a lot of manfunctions?

Had zero problems with mine in any situation mentioned in the copious threads related to grip issues.

I never counted the shots I can take but with the grip attached the meter runs to 25% charge left with arround 500 shots, I must admit that normally I change batteries by then but recently I decided to shoot on and got another 500 with it than I really charged :D.

This is under cold weather with 2 seconds preview and 2 minutes poweroff.

I doubt I will get 2000 shots with the grip.

I have the BG and two 1500mah batteries because I was afraid that the original Canon battery might not last long enough. I just counted and I have 668 saved pics, and who knows how many deleted ones over that past 1.5 weeks since I bought it.
The meter still shows a full battery, even though I took a lot of pictures with the built-in flash at first. I am really impressed, but now that I read these comments, I wouldn't be surprised to get 2000 shots with the grip! :)

Last saturnday,I spent the entire day taking shots, from 10am to 6pm.
The camera was on 90% of the time. When I wasnt using it, my friend's girls were chimping the pictures. When I got home there was still plenty of juice left.

If batteries get to last much longer we'll all wind up measurbating the number of charges required between shutter replacements...

On a very good day, I can take almost a thousand shots, if I start early. I have had a fresh charge make it the full shoot. I carry two in my pocket, one in the camera ( I have the grip that will take two) I find this the best for me.

Yes battery life it way good on the 20D . . .

That is very good info as I do my first wedding shoot with the 20D this month. Hubby has been worrying about the battery life but now we can rest easy.

Yes, just remember with flash usage, makes it run out quicker.. And the temp.
It's been summer here, so my numbers, with new body and batteries, and warm temperture, will probably be the best I will ever be able to get from the 20D.
Today in fact, I only shot 400 odd images and then the battery died. Came as a surprise when I was shooting some race cars. At least I do have that spare, which I rarely use on a single day.

Did you use IS lens? :)

Some I.S. lenses state that the camera's battery consumption may be increased by 25% due to the lens. That probably depends on how frequently you half-press the shutter button, because that is the action that activates I.S.

all the things that pissed me off about my previous camera, ie, slow start up speed, lagging shutter, slow review, and most importantly, crap battery life, where totally solved when I got the 20D.
Needless to say I'm extremely happy I upgraded. :D
