Just received a 28-135mm IS lens that I purchased off of eBay. First problem.

Loaded it on my D30 and Elan 7 and seeing the same problem on both. Here are the problems I am seeing:

1 - Autofocus is very slow and sometimes doesn't lock at all in low light.

2 - Switched to MF and the focus ring has "A LOT" of play in it. Sometimes I have to give it a few revolutions before it actually starts spinning the lens to focus.

3- Back to AF mode, trying to Auto Focus and it went into the Macro range never to return. Switched to AF and the lens is locked up. It won't autofocus out of macro. Due to problem #2, cannot use the focus ring to turn out of Macro.

Haven't talked with the seller yet, thought I would come to the professionals first.

Ever seen this happen? Even though there are no signs of damage anywhere, and the glass is perfect, is the lens busted on the inside?

I just recently bought a new 28-135IS and it exhibits none of those problems. Talk to the seller 'cause that puppy's defective.

Good luck!

Jim is being very kind; he is a lot better person than I am to let you down so easy.

I bought a used car once from a fat Texan named 'Honest Tex' with a world class beer gut, stains on his tie, alligator boots, and a payment plan you wouldn't believe. The car performed about as well as your E-Bay lens. To this day he is still on my lifetime "Hunt Down And Destroy" list but the last I heard he has retired to Mexico somewhere.8)

I hope you had better luck with your Seller. Keep us posted.

Seller refunded the cost of the lens believe it or not. :) Going to ship it back today, but I am still out the PayPal fees. $10 or so. Live and learn.

Now I just have to decide if I want to try it again. :)

Whew! Consider yourself lucky on this one. Were you really saving that much money? I really like buying brand-new stuff unless I can touch it.

Good luck.

Nothing towards the seller. He completely did an A+ job with refunding me.

Lens, bag, original box, and four filters. For $401.00 with shipping. The filters alone were well worth over $100.00 bucks. Did someone say Bucks???

GO BUCKEYES!!!! :) Anyone need a photographic assistant to next years games?!?!?!?!

I bought a D30 with the battery pack with 4 bateries, a 28-135 IS lens and an IBM 1G Drive thru ebay for $1,600.
I got it about a month ago and I am thrilled. I guess I have been lucky so far. I also bought a Tamron 14mm 2.8 lens in like new condition for $560. Ebay works, you have to be careful and ask questions but you can get very good deals.
