Hi, I just went to visit my friendly Sigma office (Sigma Hong Kong) to have my Sigma 18-50/2.8 upgraded to solve the focus assist problem with my Canon 350XT.
I took along my Sigma 20/1.8 and 12-24/4.5-5.6 lenses for checking
He told me that the 20/1.8 was fine and a fix for the 12-24 would arrive in about a month.
I'll get my 18-50 back in about a week
Has anyone else asked about fixes for other Sigma lenses?
Thanks
John

How about 8mm Fisheye? Does it need fix?

Good question - I suggest you ask Sigma and report back - I would guess no, as it seems to be the newer zooms with the problem

How did then fix the focusing of the lens? Did the focusing problem vary with cameras?

Hi, I just went to visit my friendly Sigma office (Sigma Hong Kong) to have my Sigma 18-50/2.8 upgraded to solve the focus assist problem with my Canon 350XT.
Normally, focus assist is a term applied to internal or external flash units that will put out some kind of light or light pattern to assist the camera's and lens's autofocus function.
So, Sigma had to fix your lens in order to solve a problem where exactly? In the camera or in the lens?

I'm actually surprised by learning both the 18-50 f/2.8 and 12-24 f/4.5-5.6 needed a fix. Both lenses are relatively new, and Sigma chose to ignore many complains about older Sigma lens not working with newer camera bodies? Is this for real?

I just got my Sigma 105 mm macro lens back from Gentec International. This is it's second trip. I had Rebel G film camera when I purchased the lens. When my EOS 3 film camera arrived it would only take pictures at the widest aperture because it would not stop down. Trip number one.
The lens continued to work on my D60, but when I got the 20D I found that it caused the camera to flash ERR99 and completely lock up as soon as the shutter button was pressed. Trip number two.
The lens now works pefectly on the 20D and has been thoroughly cleaned and serviced. I have been happy with the speedy service from the Canadian Sigma distributor. I just wish Canon would give all their lenses a good cleaning and servicing every few years.

I also had a great experience with Gentec International who are the Sigma dealers for Canada. I had bought a 170-500 for my Elan IIe but when i got the 20D it got the ERR99 (though not as badly as it did on my friends 10D). I dropped the lens off to them and in about 10 days they re-chipped it and sent me on my way with a fully functional lens. Great Service..
