I keep going back and forth on this shot. One time I look at it and like it, the next I want to toss it. What do you guys think, keeper or destined for the trash bin?

To be brutal
Trash

Reason?
The decisive moment has gone a frame or two before this.
Difficult sport to photograph, but for me you need the jumper in the air, or just touching down for it to be effective.

Cheers

Thanks and its not brutal. I feel the same way, but then just as I start to trash it, I think maybe something is there. Thats why I asked, at times being the "artist" you cant see the forest for the trees..

Its actually Triple Jump, which I found is much more difficult than a simiple long jump.

Here are the lead in shots, but the background is TERRIBLE.

Thanks Dave, but I'd like the last two IF they had decent backgrounds.

I guess it depends on the end use. If it is for a portfolio, then I say delete. If it is for potential sale, I say keep it. You never know what a parent will like.

+ 1........the kid/parents may like it, especially if it was the winning jump.

It was, probably part of the reason I'm struggling with it.

I agree with SNS. the pivotal moment to that jump came just a hair before that landing. you got much closer with the second two you posted but something still seems to be off. Of course, take what i'm saying with a grain of salt because i'm far from pro in every sense of the word but i think right as his feet are touching the sand would have been just perfect. i like the 2nd one you posted the best out of all of them.

It's not an athletic prowess shot; but it shows strong forward movement, intent and determination. Even when landing, he's still looking forward. I like it a lot as an expression of spirit and grit.

Only minor detraction, focus seems to be centred more on the ground rather than his face.

Thanks guys for the input. Its gone, I probably knew from the beginning it should be and should have just gone with my gut.

I dont really "sell" to parents, I will, and offer some to them more as a community service than a living but for "portfolio", I only try to use the absolute best shots, and this one just is not it. None of them are actually, probably could have been if not for those ridiculous backgrounds there.

I mostly shoot for editorial outlets and magazines, there are times when less than perfect shots are acceptable because you NEED a shot of a particular person or event so at times you have to settle with the best you got.
