I had read about this technique and wanted to take a stab at it. I am not sure if this is the right type of subject to try it on but it turned out okay I think. Please let me know what you all think of it.

I can't comment much on this blending effect (it does make the scene appear "dreamy") but I really like the composition here -- I like it a lot. Very nice.

I don't know what the "Orton Effect" is (A blurred layer?), but this is lovely, fine and soft. It's affecting in a elemental, quiet sort of way. Very well done.

The Orton effect is stacking shots taken with the focus at different points. Kind of like HDR, but with the focus changing instead of the exposure.
As for the shot, I think it turned out pretty good. I think the square crop works very well too.
