Hi All,
I just burned a bunch of images to cds/dvds. I used my mac and now at least one of the people (who uses a PC) cannot view the images. What can I do to make sure the images can be seen on both platforms.

Use a PC? ;)

What program did you use to burn the discs? What type of files? What type of discs (brand/format)?

lol. i used a maxwell cd (may have been a cd rw) with all jpg files. I just used the standard burn button option in the burn folder. So far only one person had a problem. Could it be that his computer is 6+ years old and a cd format issue?

Which type of RW though? - or + ? I don't know much about recordable cd/dvd's, but I do know that my parents had trouble viewing one that our wedding videographer made in their DVD player (older model) because they used -R discs in stead of +R.

Maybe someone who actually knows something will chime in. :)

I use a Mac but use Toast to burn CDs and DVDs, for CDs it offers some choices, Mac only, Mac + PC and another that I usually use for both is ISO 9660. I've never had a problem with that when viewing on a PC. I could be his drive on an older PC but probably is the option you selected when burning. I don't use the software you used so I can't be sure what options it offers.

Did you close/finalize the session?

Mac does that on its own. This is the first time I have encountered this problem, and it is only this one computer.

All the dvd's I burned seem to be working they are DVD+R the cds are Memorex CD-R. I think it may just be the kids computer, I had burned another cd for someone else and they were able to upload and publish the pictures without a problem.

I just use the regular burn folder on my mac and hit burn once I have the files I want. I think (and am now pretty positive) it is his computer though because he told me he had trouble burning music cds.

seems like the problem is at his end. You could either leave things as they are, or if you're feeling nice, drop them on a USB key or FTP for him.

psuphoto09,
I believe its because of:
-r is the standard default and is what I suggest you use. Most cd+r drives read -r, but not all cd-r drives read +r disks.

I just thought I'd add something else to this thread - I'm experiencing some difficulties going the other way - a disc burned in nero on vista not being readable in OSX but still readable in other OSes. I've moved data between these two computers loads of times in the past so I've no idea why it's not worked this time, but one thing I have investigated is UDF compatibility - seems it's inconsistent across different platforms. Might be something he should check for on his computer. (Vista has full support, fully updated XP has quite good support, 98, Me, OSX are patchy at best.)

it was a cd-r that I gave him, just checked. only the dvd's are +r.

Sounds like he's not too computer savvy.. Does he definitley have a burner? If not, it could be his drive is old and incompatible with the type of discs you've used. That's his problem really, not yours. If he does have a burner, it could be incorrectly configured - drivers not installed properly, conflicting burn applications etc..... or it could just be worn out.

I think you're doing everything right really, so I'd just keep doing it as you are for other clients and decide how you want to proceed with this one guy.

I was doin this for my club at school and the person whos drive isnt working happens to be my boyfriend, I normally wouldnt really care too much otherwise. He is computer savvy, and yes he has a burner. -R are pretty much universal though. It worked and then just stopped one day so idk. Ive been telling him to get a new one.

Thanks for all the advice though guys!!
