View Full Version : Ahhh did my eBay OC-E3b cord short my Canon XTi?

So here's what happened, I ordered a Yongnuo OC-E3b (the 8 ft version of the OC-E3) and hooked that up to a 580EX II on one end and attached the other end to my XTi's hot-shoe. The 580EX II has freshly charged Eneloop batteries while the XTi has a BG-E3 battery grip using a generic battery and the XTi's oem battery.

I setup everything on a new impact light stand and took a shot with my camera. Once the flash went off, my LCD disappeared without evening showing me a review of the picture I just took. I was like, what the heck? I looked at the flash and it was already charged to go for another shot, so I looked back at my camera. I pressed the display button and got no result. Then I went to flick the power switch to off and the camera wouldn't turn off! (the green led on top stayed lit). I had to manually eject the battery magazine. The battery indicator showed that it had about half battery life left (but I'm not sure about its accuracy). When I flicked the power switch back on, nothing happened. No response!

So I'm charging the two XTi batteries right now. Hopefully that's the only problem. I'll update everyone once I get to test them out. And I was sooo looking forward to shooting off-camera...

Don't tell me that! I ordered a YongNuo cord (the normal length one) off ebay and it was shipped out yesterday and I have a 400D like you :(

Hope yours works fine soon and I hope mine does too.

Here's the update! I charged both batteries and popped them back into the XTi and everything worked normal again! Phew! Since I have had my XTi I've never had it run out of battery because it just lasts so long on each charge!

The Yongnuo cord works very well and the locking mechanism is nearly identical to the Canon 580EX II's locking mechanism. The rubber gasket however is a little stiffer (which is a plus! As the 580EXII's gasket is softter by comparison). The cables are thick, strong, and shooting in ETTL works everytime (although I'll mainly use this in Manual mode).
