Hi,

I'm a bit concerned right now. I have been spending money on Facebook only to find out on Google Analytics that a sizable portion of my clicks (naturally for which I'm being charged for) are from locales far from where I set. For example, I'm in Ottawa, Ontario and I'm getting clicks from St. John's Newfoundland; Edmonton, Alberta; and Don Mills, Ontario.

For my American friends, that is the equivalent of being in Chicago or Detroit and getting clicks from Boston or New York City. What is going on? Can anyone give me some insight. I'm feeling a bit taken advantage of here.

Cheers,

Shaun

Facebook's targetting is awful. Ignore the actual cost and CPM etc, work out your actual cost per sale (or booking etc.) and see if you're still getting a good deal. If you are, carry on. If you're not, don't. Simple as that. If you haven't got enough results to work it out yet, set yourself a budget (or time constraint) and stop when you get there. ($500 is probably sensible - if you haven't got any closes after that then I'd give up on that avenue of advertising for the time being.)

@ Dreamcatcher23

I hear what you're saying and I completely agree. The only problem is that if I live in Ottawa and Facebook is sending my ad to people in Vancouver, then that's a huge issue. That means that they are wasting my money. If what you are saying is true about Facebook incorrectly targeting people, then this is a cause for concern and I should not continue with them. If Facebook is diligently targeting the demographic that I'm paying them to target and I get no bookings - I can live with that (albeit I would be extremely disappointed). However, if 10% of all the clicks that I'm being charged for are in Newfoundland and Alberta, I don't think that is fair, do you?

I'm interested to hear opinions on this matter.

Thanks :-)

I don't think it's really on, no. Perhaps they'll reimburse you at the end of the month for incorrect clicks like google adwords does? Perhaps it's targetting people by what it says in their profile but that's not where they're actually based - eg. Their profile says Ottawa but they're currently elsewhere and that's where they're clicking from.

I wouldnt waste money marketing on Facebook. You need to target your clients better.

I don't know Facebook, but I have friends who've used Google -- Their experience is similar to yours in the sense that they spent thousands, got zero in return.

Seems like a waste if you're not getting what you want.

I get fair and frequent work off Facebook - (its awesome!) - but not by paying anyone to advertise! I just let my friends do the talking!

I've used facebook advertising for the past 4 months and my clicks all came from my targeted areas. I don't know how the Canadian targeting works but maybe you can adjust your filters to make it more location specific.

In the past 4 months since I started the facebook advertising I've spent about $700 and I've booke 10 weddings from those ads. You can see why when it works it's good thats about $20,000 for $700.

No - it's not illegal.. that's misinformation. Maybe where you are.. but here in Canada - it's not illegal.

@BSc Photo.. is there any tips you could tell me what to write in Facebook to help attract people to my site and possibly get bookings? It is seeming super competitive in my neck of the woods.
