View Full Version : My First Liberty

Tonight I had my first chance at shooting a mates Subaru Liberty.
And well, I pretty much sucked. Don't think I got any keepers out of 30 odd shots fired off. The spot I think has potential for some pretty nice shots but I didn't do it any justice. Not sure what went wrong tonight but look as if I miss focused. That along with the lighting issue behind it made for an overall poor night for me IMO. Criticism is greatly appreciated as I would like to improve my automotive shooting.

If you would like to see any more to see what you think I will upload them. Criticism is greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Dan
EDIT - Have uploaded 2 more photos that I feel turned out 'ok' from tonight. Thanks for looking :)

Thanks mate! Have added two more pictures to original post. The third one the wheels are facing the wrong way, but you live and learn haha.

Don't think I got any keepers The reflections in these don't look all that bad, & metallic paint looks pretty good everywhere. I kind of like #1. I would like to improve my automotive shooting. I prefer using better natural light. See the "Tips" in my Sig. And...

The spot does have some great potential. I don't think these shots are that bad though, the first one is pretty good! Take more than 30 photos, that's the beauty of digital, play around out there, take different angles, exposures, etc and see what you come up with. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips and comments everyone. They're greatly appreciated. Main reason for so little shots was I was sharing the shots with another mate taking photos so was only a muck around with a mates car. I will be trying another shoot in a few weeks with my sisters new car but have to find a new location, a black car will be a good challenge to help improve my shots.
Thanks again everyone. Look forward to posting more and hopefully gaining some more little 'tricks'

You've done a decent job with the first one where there is a good amount of light on the side of the car that was facing you.
Try to keep the light on the camera side of the car unless you're going for something else.
You could also try to zoom in more, but keep the entire vehicle in the frame. This should help separate the car more from the background.

Where I was, every wall was covered in flood lights so no matter where the car was parked it was in the light, just depended really on which side of the lot we parked it. Thanks alot everyone. It's been a great learning curve for my first attempt. I will try and step it up for my next shot in 1-2 weeks when the new car arrives.

Sure mate, It is in a new industrial estate in Singleton. We were lucky and a shop in there was working late so the gates were left open while they were working. Usually its all locked up, although I'm sure if you wanted to use it and got in touch with the landlord (names on the fence) they would be more then willing to open it up for an hour or 2 for some photoshoots.
