Another shot of Ani, from the camera, cropped, USM 100.0/5.0/10.0. I think a 420 flash mounted on the camera was used with this shot, so have a pretty dark shadow below her chin. Color seems to be about right, but the DOF could have been a little bit deeper, bringing her eyes more into focus.

Not a really good shot, but shows off Ani's smile again http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

1st shot shows the focusing points used taking the shot.

2nd shot shows the EXIF info from BreezeBrowserPRO for the image. Taken with the 70-200IS lens @ f2.8 1/60 second. Lens at 73mm, Ani 2.32 meters from camera.

These are the USM settings, all they did was sharpen her eyes and lips a small amount and left the rest of the photo alone.

Giving us the final posted shot.

Lighting looks pretty even and the background was far enough away to be OOF enough. And yes, I should have cleaned the lipstick off her teeth http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

Comments welcome.

I'd use photoshop to whiten her teeth.

I have a different technique for USM you may want to try. Save your sharpening for last, in Photoshop switch the image to Lab Color. Click on Channels -> Lightness then go to Filters - Sharpen - Unsharpen Mask . This will allow you to only sharpen the lightness channel of the image which I feel gives better results to sharpening the entire image.

I usually use the following:

Amount: 150 - 200%
Radius: between .7 - 1.5
Threshold: 0 - 1

Would you do that on her and let's see what it looks like Robert! Thanks for taking a look.

Thanks for that tip Jesse! Have used it before. Also have used:

CTRL J (to make a dupe layer)
Filter / Other / High Pass and choose maybe 4
Then change that layer to Overlay and reduce the Opacity until it looks good.
Experiment with the settings.
