We dont seem to have a before and after thread for car shots....im always interested in seeing peoples work after.
If you are post yours too, we can all maybe learn a thing or two and raise a few questions on editing techniques etc. I understand there are some secrets to our editing we may not want to give away so thats fine too. But im sure it cant hurt to show the before and after
Ill start.....

I used a dark vignette preset in LR and adjusted the settings to match my lighting and used the brush to fix areas.

What did you do to brighten up the side of the car?
I want to say this is a composite shot because I see some additional reflections and the rear of the car is much sharper. The original rig shot, plus a second still shot with strobes?

thanks guys, yeah the pumping up of the levels is actually really easy,
duplicate your layer on photoshop, (control + J)
then select that layer and change the blending mode to screen. I did that and then reduced the opacity to about 65% i think

Thanks Anthony! That is a good tip I have never known about and will make a big difference in alot of my photos. Until now, I have been using levels and curves with layer masks to bump up the brightness of the car... your method is more effective and easier! Thanks!

Like stated above, I think the best guess would be that he took two shots, one while the car wasn't rolling, and one while it was rolling, and combined them. Because I'm not sure of a way you could bring it back that sharp.
That shot is amazing though. Great PP work.

I tried doing it a few times, but if you can get the rig stable in the first place it looks a lot more natural to me. The lighting looks kinda weird on the after shot. Of course because the end is a composite. But it just doesn't look right.

On top of the typical stuff... It's a 3 stop HDR, then I added some GND filters from different angles to help concentrate the light on the ground. :)

I'm driving an '04 Dodge Durango right now, lol. I'm in the market for a new car so the Durango only needs to be used to tow the jet skis. Which sort of gives me a cool idea for a rig shot...but I don't have a rig

Hello all,
Been bored so I did some editing on a couple of pics.
Let me know what you think of it. I know I could have
done further with the editing but just rushed both pics.
Anyways here they are....let me hear your thoughts.
Cleaned up the ground, fixed shadow/sun behind car on both sides and darken the background a little.
http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll249/photoshootmycar/MISC/Subaru20sample1.jpg
Lightened the building, cleaned ground, cleaned some of hood, front fender, driver side lheadlight, lighten wheels and tires and the obvious clouds.

Both shots need more dynamic framing as in more room at the front for it to "move into".
They look OK, but... Lightened the building, I'd have darkened it to make the car pop out of the shot more. Keep in mind that our eyes are drawn to the brighter parts of the shot. And those bright areas tend to make the car look even darker. Take a look at POST #30 near the bottom: The gray bar at the center is the same density all the way across.

Caspita,
it depends on the shot. For the shot of the M5, i had shot the sunset a while back. The rest of the picture was created from scratch. As for the S2k, im assuming you are referring to the silk sheet shot? Those were created from scratch as well. I really need to start shooting these cars in a studio to get the feel i want. But thanks for the compliments. Your stuff is pretty wicked as well. :D

It's a white car, so noise can be quickly remedied ... check the front tire, you'll notice the downside of bumping the exposure.
Still a really nice rescue !

and after:

I'm sure the 'after' shot is a multiple exposure shot, the car from the before shot lacks some lights that are plainly visible on the 'after' shot like on the front just behind the light unit and above the rear wheel arche.
Either there were multiple exposures with different light setups or it was a raw file that was 'developed' with various exposure settings ... however I think my first idea is right, those 'light' areas on the wheel arches just aren't there in the 'before' shot ;) Also at some point there was a white panel/sheet in front of the car to get that reflection on the lower part of the bodywork ?
I really like the studio effect you've managed with this shot, amazing work !
