Help With Sports ???

I thought I would take my 10D, 28-135 IS, 75-300 IS to the baseball field today. I shot some 275 pictures and then condensed that down to 14 that were actually in focus or showed some action. I thought the 10D would make it kind of easy...boy was I wrong. I shifted between all three focusing modes and found each one to be difficult to work with. With the AI Servo, as soon as the subject moved my focusing point would also move and the lens would lose focus. Anyway I will post a couple of my shots and please tell me what you think I did right/wrong and how I could make it better. i am going to the park on sunday to shoot a soccer game. Maybe i will do a little better then.

Of course the key to AI servo is keeping the active focus point on the subject. You could try using all the focus points and letting the camera decide which to use.

If you set the focusing points selection to automatic and the AF mode to AIServo, the camera will lock in on the subject using the center focusing point. If the subject moves away from the center AF point, the camera will be able to track the subject with the other AF points as long as the subject is covered by one of the other AF points. So this might be a good option for you if you are having a hard time always keeping the center AF point on the subject as he is moving. Tracking the subject using all the AF points is going to be a little slower than when only using one AF point but I don't think it's something you'd have to worry about when shooting a baseball game.

Thanks for the info about letting the camera select focusing points. I had not tried that. I wanted to post a couple more from yesterday, just to let you see how I did. I will try this new technique at the soccer game on sunday.
