I know there were many rumors about that.
But this one is particularly more interesting and plausible:

http://www.canonrumors.com/2009/04/5d-mark-ii-firmware-update-in-the-wild/

Being first to deliver manual control in video mode (in a FF sensor DSLR) can also benefit Canon, wich always claims to "listen to customer suggestions" and innovate.

And after thousands of complains, and competition coming soon, I really think it is possibe for a firmware update to give some (if not full) manual control for video.
That would also recover many customer's loyalty and credibility in Canon. Not to mention that would increase their sales in both, camera and lenses (no need to use Nikon manual lenses any more...)

My common sense (that may be wrong, but I still trust on) considering all the factors implied in this whole situation, tells me it is on the way.

Let's hope it is true, and it is for FULL Manual control.
Time will tell, maybe it's not far.

Keep requesting.

If it were to happen, I think it will be AV mode in video. I don't see full manual control happening. I hope to be wrong, though.

I hope it's true but CR has its share of just rumors :D

If they had that and retained the exposure compensation, it should be OK.

let's see what happen.

No big news at NAB might be good news could be coming...

In the meantime we still keep requesting worldwide:

Keep spreading the information too !!
I still think this will get interesting...
Too many people are interested in the video possibilities (and doing efforts with workarounds... so far)

Thanks a lot in advance.

"On the set
I’ve received informormation from a few folks that the new 5D Mark II firmware is on location on the Iron Man 2 set. Apparently the cameras are in Morocco at the moment."

It would be nice if some information with actual details of the firmware features leaked out (specifically, what are the details of the manual control options). I'm hoping the xxD & xxxD firmware releases earlier this week means the firmware team is fully devoted to getting the beta 5D Mk II firmware ironed out and released by the first week in May.

I'm sure others know how to do this, but I just learned that if I choose my aperture in Manual mode, hold down the DOF preview button, undo my lens the tiniest bit (you're lcd should say "0" for the aperture), then turn on filming mode and I was all set. That's all I did and I shot at f/1.2 at noon just fine :)

Cool. But it would be better if you didn't have to mess around like that. :)

Oh I agree. I was just glad to be able to do so now until the firmware comes out :)

Is that a safe method? Is there any risk involved camera or lens-wise (>>> contacts) ?

There's another method where you hold down the DOF button to lock the aperture... and remove the lens completely. On the bottom portion of the camera there are some contacts you tape over then screw the lens back on. The aperture will be locked (at what you put it at before you unscrewed the lens) and now you have aperture control... :) (err... not complete aperture control but the aperture will be usable at what you set it at).
