Something different for the last picture of the year... I was walking down their black marble staircase yesterday and noticed the reflections from the ceiling.

Happy New Year, everyone.

Don

By the way, what you're seeing in the upper-right-hand corner of the picture is the huge dome shown below. I was halfway down the far staircase.

Hi Marie,

I'm not in the picture for a reason... here's another photo of one of their lobby fountains...

As per usual you have taken two more super shots with what appear to be outstanding exposure and sharpness -- undoubtably in RAW mode!

Well, I wish that I had the memory CF to shot raw ...actually I am just moving up to 128 from 32!

You see, I set up a Power Point show of selected 2002 images and viewed same at 72 dpi, but from a distance of 15 feet on about a 5 x 7 screen. Things were OK, but a far cry from the clarity and sharpness of 35mm transpareicies. Indeed the best were those with lots of sharp detail in the foreground.

Yours would be perfect.

Hi Howie,

Happy first day of the year...

You're right about RAW and about taking lots of shots. One of the best things I did when I purchased my cameras was to buy a Microdrive for each of them. Even in RAW, I get approximately 359 pictures per disk. It saves my brain from the constant debate of "Shoot or not?" and it saves my time not having to review shots on the card to determine if there are any I can delete in order to take another.

Still, they were US$300 each at the time and I can understand people not wanting to spend even more after purchasing the camera itself.

Here's hoping that someday you have the freedom of a Microdrive. Shoot enough pictures and something's bound to turn out. :)

Cheers,

Don

New years day dawns !

( did you know you were called after the dawn don ? ) !

thanks Don
looking at your pictures and thinking about those lovely 'lines' (for want of a better word)
not sure if they are actually the staircase lines in a mirror image or the mirror in the ceiling is slightly 'sheeted' .
you know the type of glass I mean

many thanks for the picture of the beautiful spray of foliage in the fountain.
must have been more beautiful in reality
lovely colours all round
just wondered was the water spraying up high, right through the foliage
its very very difficult to capture this type of thing in a picture
also it being lit by night lights even harder I guess
really nice to see

wondered if ever anyone would slip
(by accident or design...
nasty clever yokes out and about : )
... on a black marble staircase in a top notch hotel !
what would the consequences be for the owners ? unusual to take those chances.
even torn carpet is quickly replaced in these places...just in case

wonder is there a warning.... please keep your marbles while descending the black m staircase
(you obviously did )

you could have got a picture of yourself rolling down the stairs captured in the ceiling mirror and then sued left right and centre (having the picture proof evidence)
ha ha ha ha
oops sorry ......
you may have been hurt

thanks again and may you have many many happy hours shooting beautiful well done pictures all year

marie

did you hear about the fellow who called in on his girlfriend and she shouted down the stairs
>> I'm in the bath >> slip on something and come down quick >>>

so she did,
she slipped on the soap and was down in a jif !

methinks thats how it goes
no use at telling jokes
but being new years day... anything goes

: )

Happy New Year to you, Don.
