I was thinking of getting a new tripod and wanted a ball head and found this

I have a Vanguard Trekker 4 with a 488rc2 on it and I'm pretty happy.

It's heavy, but it seems pretty stable and durable. I got my legs and a cheap pan head for about $125 locally, so I'd say that's a fair deal.

well my current tripod is 7lb so this would be lighter for me :)

I have a lighter Vanguard VT128 and I have beat the ..... out of it for a few years. My only complaint is that when the column is extended, it does not actually support weight without some movement. Since I am short and don't typically extend it, not a problem. But my 6'4" hubby does not like it at all since he always has to extend the column fully or stoop over. Overall though the quality is fine for a budget tripod. Cabela's sells Vanguard's and they may have a better price.

I too have been looking at the Vangaurd products, so I'd be happy to know what you think of it after you get it, or if you get it.

Thanks for the others who have posted their comments on the products. I'm sort of looking for one as a back up and thought why spend top dollar if its not going to be used all the time?
