I just picked up a used BG-E2 grip. Unfortunately it did not come with any paperwork whatsoever. It has a number on the bottom plate which is 116440.

First off, I know some of the "early" BG-E2's had some issues with draining batteries or at least showing a drained battery. Can anyone tell from the number if what I have is old or new?

Does anyone have a PDF of the instruction sheet?

If not, can someone advise whether to leave the ON/OFF button in the OFF position unless I'm using the buttons on the grip? Am I still getting juice from both batteries but it just leaves the buttons unpowered?

Any other thoughts from people using the grips?

Serial Number 000001 - 096000 are the affected models, so it looks as if you will be okay. Yours should also have the gold terminals.

The on/off button only affects the buttons on the grip, power is supplied to the camera regardless of position.

Like Duncan said, Mitch, you can just leave the grip in the on position all the time. It's not draining your batteries when the camera is idle or turned off.

Not sure about your serial number.

Wow, thanks for the quick responses guys. The grip really transforms the feel of the camera.

I know the attachment wheel turns a plastic gear, so to be careful on torque there. Any other insights on care and feeding of the grip appreciated.
