ok i just bought my 300 last month. i just looked over at the dell coupons and found the xt for a great deal. if i return the camera to circuit city they are going to charge me 15% for an open box which comes to 100.00, bringing the price difference between the xt and the 300d to 150.00 (US). of course ill have to go and deal with the headache of returning it, and wait a few weeks for the new camera, is it worth it?

This is not something that anyone else can tell you. For one person it might be worth it and for another not. I got my 300D in November and am more than happy with it so I'm not considering the 350D. But for you it might be worth changing. Your best bet would be to carefully examine the differences in features and decide if there are any features on the 350D that the 300D doesn't give you, and that you feel you must have. You should be able to use the comparison function of DPReview to do this.

I haven't personally dealt with CC, but my understanding from some who have is that CC may not give you a refund, but in store credit. I could be wrong on that, but check it out before you decide. That may make the decision for you...

Also, not sure I follow the math. Assuming you paid $800, you can get the 350 at Dell for $760, you have to pay a $100 restocking fee, so that would put the cost at about an extra $60. Unless you got a deal at CC.

Personally, I am just loving shooting 12 frames in 4 seconds non-stop - I couldn't give that up. But maybe that's just me. :)

Edit: Oh, yeah, the extra 10% at Dell is for buying it with the Dell Prefered Credit financing - maybe you don't want to deal with that...? (It was fast and fairly painless to get signed up, fwiw.)

There is no right answer to that. It depends on your needs and financial capacity, and only you can make that determination.

Is the 350 a better camera? Yes. Is it worth more money? Yes. How much? Depends.

Mike, i think my case is similar to your. The only difference is, my 300D purchase date is well beyond 30 days (bought in Jan'05). But if it was still within the 30 days return policy, I would have gone for the slight upgrade to 350XT.

I bought my 300D from Dell.com with all the coupons and discounts available at that time. After tax, it costed me around $760. Let's say Dell is willing to take it back, with a 15% restocking fees, i.e. $108. That means I will add the $108 on top of the current XT deal at Dell.com. If after adding the $108 the XT is still below $900 (with savings and discounts), i'll definitely go for it. Dell only charges tax in certain states. It'd be even better deal if you live in a state that Dell won't charge tax.
