I recently bought an A40 and initially installed the software on my laptop....no problems.

I then went to install the software on my home PC...a 3-4 year old E-Machines E-Monster 500a. It has two USB ports and one was being used by the scanner.

To cut a long story short, it seems as if the software will not work because the original OS was Win95 which I then upgraded to Win98. The manual says:
USB : only preinstalled Windows 98/WindowsME/Windows2000/WindowsXP systems with built in USB ports.

My system is preinstalled Windows95 with built in USB ports...so I guess that rules me out. Is there a way around this ?. Will upgrading to Win2000 make any difference or will I just have to use a card reader ?.

TIA...Kees

You could reformat and start fresh with a compatable OS. That would be a huge hassle especially if everything else is working well. I just bought a card reader and it is so much easier, much less hassle.

I'm confused. A USB card reader won't work if the computer doesn't communicate through the USB ports. But you're using a scanner on one USB port... does the scanner work on that port? If so, have you tried plugging the camera into the port where the scanner is connected? Could be a bad USB port. If the scanner works, your problem has nothing to do with the fact that you're using an upgraded version of the OS.

A card reader almost always works, as long as your computer supports USB. Why your camera won't download pictures through the existing USB connection is a puzzlement.
