Hi
I've got an order in for the 10-22 and am trying to get the lenshood too. Not proving very easy in UK:evil: . I will also get a Lowepro case for it, but can't find the hood dimensions anywhere.
Can any of you kind (grovel):D 10-22 hood owners give me the diameter in mm please?

Thanks

Hi weemannie, ( or Your Grace the Duke of Sutherland ) :)

I believe the hood for this lens is the EW-83E which is the same hood that comes with the 17-40L and the 16-35L.

I have the 17-40L and I find this hood almost useless on the 10D.

Anyway, I did a quick search and it seems to be in stock here:

Good luck.

As an afterthought, before you buy this hood have a look at this thread;

Thanks for the pointer LomondI may have to re-think the hood, but I'm a bit concerned about flare with a lens this wide! :)

Maybe something like the Flarebuster would be a better option?
Thanks again.

Regards

Trevor

I use my 17-40 mainly for landscape stuff, therefore I have time to set the shot up. I usually carry a black foam rubber mat ( you see them in outdoor shops, Tiso etc ) to sit on and if necessary use this to shade the lens. I then check the image on the LCD.
It works for me.

WAIT A SECOND!

You mean to tell me that this 600-700 dollar lens doesn't come with a lens hood..

You have got to be kidding me...

In rip off Britain the lens hood for this lens is optional, ie an extra. :(

It's not included here in the US either.

what the heck is Canon thinking?

I bet the lens hood is like 25-30 bucks extra, or something rediculous like that.

okok, enough of my rants.

In the UK the lens hood wouls set you back £25 - £30 , around $50 - $60.
That's what I mean by Rip of Britain.
We're talking about a small piece of plastic here.

okok, enough of my rants. With Canon lenses, the lens hood and a pouch for the lens is only included with L lenses and with a few expensive non-L lenses (such as the 70-300 DO). With other non-L lenses, the hood is optional. I've bought the hood for my 28-135 separately, it had to be ordered by the shop, it took six weeks and I paid € 45 ($ 58) in rip-off Holland for it.

Do what I did, find someone with the hood that has a 17-40 and buy it from them, since it is not the right hood for them with a 1.6X camera.

A recent example of Rip off Britain.

Just bought a 300f4 IS L plus 1.4 TC from WharehouseExpress ( a mail order co. with reasonably good prices and normally good service )

Assuming $1.88 to £1

UK price in dollars .... $ 2200
B&H price in USA ..... $ 1380

Sorry for the rant Weemannie.
I feel a bit better now.

:D :D I fully understand, it irritates the h*ll out of me too. My last few lenses and my 20D purchases have all been made overseas. Even allowing for taxes, P&P and import duty, its still been a lot cheaper. The only frustration is the time delay in getting hold of my new 'baby' to have a play. Classic point in question, I have just bought a 10-22 from Hong Kong (eBay), it arrived in about 3 working days, which I thought was good, only problem, the lens was damaged in transit! So its back in HK again, awaiting replacement. >:(

Thanks to all for the suggestions

weemannie, just out of curiousity, why didn't you order the hood with the 10-22mm from hong kong? not available there?

B&H sells it for $34, but it's been on backorder for quite a while.
I've seen it at some other online sites, but they want even more.
I'll wait for B&H.

I was sick of waiting for B&H to stock the hood so I went out to the local camera shop and picked one up....at rape prices! Actually it was only $10 more but I didn't care. This hood is so wide! Haven't tried the hood out in the field yet to see if it reduces lens flare but I'm sure it helps.

Let me put it this way;

If nothing else, it sure looks nice.

I just got my hood finally, and it looks nice, but MAN, the thing is HUGE!
No idea where I am going to put it in my camera bag, throws everything out of wack! I did not expect it be so big.

Would the lens hood of 17-40mm produce a loss of light around the edge of the photos?
