The 1D mkII has multi-spot metering. Using the FEL button you can meter a number of points in the frame and the camera will average the readings. This looks tricky and time consuming to me but who out there uses it and am I missing something?

So, same question put a different way: If you use the multi spot metering regularly can you tell me why and how it is of benefit to you?

Martin

I don't use it often. I think it comes in handy when you are trying to get the most out of a scene with a wide variation in lighting levels and you are looking for an exposure that will expose most of the scene within acceptable limits.

Scott is perfectly correct. I dont even use it on all my landscape shots, only on night landscape shots where calculating exposure time is both difficult and critical. Its also comes in handy in the studio depending on the shot you want to take, other then that it helps in harsh lighting situations. However, I find it time too time consuming for situational photography.

Its not very complicated at all, read your manual a couple of times.

I use it. With it you can tell how much of EV or stop difference between the shadow area and the hightlight area. With the data you have, you can add Graduated ND or figure out which area to sacarfic.

Thanks all....

You kind of confirm what I thought and my manual is by the bed so I read it frequently! mbze430's point's a good one too. I think I'll fiddle with it more.

Thanks
