I went to Miami for a business trip, and got away for a morning. Most of these were taken around the Flamingo area in Everglades National Park. All were with a rebel, tamron 28-75.

I'll stop posting with these, but I could go on. Great location for nature shots.

Sorry - I mixed up the names of my files when I saved for the web.
The egret is the all-white bird with it's wings in an arc (grass background). The white bird with the red beak (sky background) is an ibis. The heron is the blue-gray bird walking on the grass. The egg thief is a crow.

Jim, thanks for the kind words.
from Miami, US 1 south to Homestead, turn west at the sign to Everglades park (state road 9336), follow park road all the way to end at Flamingo. From Miami convention center area, about a 1 hour drive.
These shots were mostly along the coastal prairie trail, some at Eco lake. The alligator was on the Anhinga trail near the park entrance.

Great shots! #2 is astounding!
The one of the ibis has a lot going for it. When you resize it for the web, you might want bump the histogram to the right (double the gamma, whatever you do in PS), something like this:

Thanks, everyone for looking and comments.
Malcolm -- from near the convention center it was a little over an hour drive to flamingo, in the far end of the park. Wake up really early to get there around sunrise. I liked the coastal prarie trail, Eco lake (not a hike at all, more of a stroll), and on the way back near the royal palm ranger station, definitely the Anhinga trail.
Airboat tours are outside the park, on the Tamiami Road. They're very popular -- personal choice -- my style is get into the park and walk. Bring plenty of mosquito repellent, and water. Have fun !!!
