View Full Version : How do you get comfortable?

This question is a little embarrassing, but I really need some answers here.

I'm not an incredibly shy person, but I truly believe I'd be an infinitely better photographer if I could get over my "camera shyness" (and I'm not talking about in front of the camera). I know that practice is the key to getting refining skills and talent, but how did you guys get comfortable with lugging your cameras everywhere? I have no problem taking a little P&S camera anywhere and everywhere, but the big SLR is another story.

So basically I'm wondering how often you all have your cameras with you, and how you may have gotten over any "shyness" you might have had?

Thanks!

I cant say i have had this problem - I just get on with it and to hell with what anyone else thinks! No-one is going to be that bothered that you are shooting (unless you make a PITA of yourself).

But i can understand the feelings and this is what I would suggest

Go out with other shooters at first. This will ease you in to the feeling of shooting in public with a big camera but with enough support that you dont feel isolated.

Then go and shoot some more (on our own) once you are comfortable.
