I hope that someone may be able to help me. I am a complete novice with everything technology. I was uploading a bunch of photos online, and now have lost a LOT of older ones that were on the memory card. I know that I have them saved somewhere, but I really wish I knew what happened. The only thing that I did differently this time was using the drive directly on my laptop instead of plugging the camera in to the program (because I changed computers and the program is no longer compatible - new country). I just am not sure what the big change is. I don't want to lose all my pictures every time I upload things. Any advice??

For a start - what kind of computer are you using? And what camera model. If you use a card reader (or a card slot on your laptop) you can use the computer's file management program to either copy or move files over. Usually Copy is what will happen unless you make an effort to Move. By the way, your old program should run just fine on your new computer; if the two are from different language types (like Greek and English) you might have trouble reading the menus and all, but there are work-arounds for that. And Canon's software usually supports multiple languages - you just need to reinstall it for the right one.
The Stickie here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=670801) will help you recover accidentally deleted files.

when you upload them does it say the files are damaged? Or they aren't showing up as even existing? I have had my memory card randomly do this to me..I ended up downloading a free recovery program and it will retrieve them all. I'm sure that is explained in the sticky Jon posted.
