SDHC cards are rated 2, 4 and 6, depending on digital transfer speed (DTS)
So, if your camera has a DTS of 2MB/S, you would only need to buy the cheaper SDHC 2 card.
I'd like to know what the DTS is for my a570IS. It's not listed in the specs.
Thanks.

It's slower than the cards. Don't worry about card speed, look at reliability for your storage media.

I was about to ask the same question... I'd decided on the Extreme III cards considering the
great reviews I've read. Until I spent the day reading thru the many posts on this forum.
None actually mentioned my camera - the A590IS - but it seems from what I've read these types
of cameras won't benefit from the 'faster cards' .
My question is then, what cards are appropriate for cameras such as the A590IS ?
And, are there any benefits at all to using a fast(er) card like the San Disk Extremes in a camera
such as the A590IS ? Or should I go with something like the Ultra II's instead ?

Like I said, reliability is important, especially if you're only carrying one camera. I don't bother with anything less than SanDisk Ultra IIs, and prefer to get Extreme III or Extreme IV, but the Extremes are because of the 1D3. I don't want to have to stop and think about which card to grab when I need a new one. As long as it's empty should be all that matters. Your camera might be ready slightly sooner for the next picture in burst mode, but most of the delay is AF and metering overhead until you get to the SX1 with a 4 fps peak burst rate and with RAW (which means vastly larger files).
