I've heard others ask and compare the P&S vs the SLR camera a few times. They say the p&s is more aggressive with processing in camera.
Would bumping up "parameters" all to max get/mean the same thing as aggressvie ?
Is it possible to get the same thing with slr.

Read page 26 of the following pdf file:

thank you for that link/pdf.
It helps explain things a bit better. That chart makes me wonder where "adobe rgb" is.
off topic
That is the very first "pdf" that does not display correctly in linux "kghostveiw". All the text "issmashedtogetherlikethis".
Anyhow, I've saved it, and will have a better read of it while in XP.

Bob, If I'm reading this chart correctly. If I were to use "RAW + L Fine jpeg" using say a custom parameter all maxed out. I would get both an image considered P&S quality with a RAW file for fine tuning ?
KInda best of both worlds thing ?.

Let me throw in my two cents.
1. That seems like a good PDF document. Note that some of the general material is for all EOS users, and some of the material is specific to 1-class pro bodies only.
2. The issue of what combination of file formats to save is always popping up in this forum. We may not be able to put it to bed right now. Personally, I always found the combination-file saving to be overly complicated. There may be some here who don't find it to be so bad. Further, combination file saving eats up more CF space.
I used to shoot a D60, and with it, I could shoot RAW-only, or JPEG only, in each and every camera mode. I guess I got used to shooting RAW-only. Now I use a 20D, and I have most of the same options plus the combination file items. For me, I really don't need JPEG files for any purpose.

Guess I'm kinda looking for the easiest way to get photo's ready for print out of my dslr, like I was getting with P&S A80. I know RAW is the way to go, but this is when you know how to proccess your shots for print (and have some kind of proper moniter calibration).
I know this combo would eat alot of card space, but it would give a jpeg to print as is, and a RAW to hopefully learn from.
While I'm new at photography, I do know that each time a "jpeg" is altered and then "saved", more info is lost. It is not a fomat for altering.
Raw/Tiff is the format to play with.
And to be really honest, my wife loves what is on screen of my/our photos. But when I print them at our local shop, they are just ok shots. This lands on me, not really knowing how to properly process before print.

Okay, I just got the XT, and compared to my G5, the pics don't look any better. Just like the pdf says, my skin tones are coming out redder. I am shooting in jpeg, Parameter 1. I am a newbie when it comes to post processing. What is an easy way to adjust the colors, in either Elements or PS? Should I try a custom setting, and bump up the parameters to higher level, or try to fix in post processing? I need help, as I feel that the camera is not meeting my expectations. Also, I'm using the kit lens.

Try shooting in param 2 or set your own custom parameters if shooting jpeg. I shoot only in raw and Getting down a raw workflow is really no problem. I use PSCS and have many "recipes" for processing saved for application to the right shoot. A little work on your end will result in mind blowing pics that no PS cam can compare to. As well, make sure your monitor is calibrated and all your color spaces are matching. I print at home on a dedicated 4X6 printer and larger format printers and now that my cam, computer and printers are in sync, there are no surprises and the results are rather excellent. More often than not when you see differences on monitor views and "local shop" result on prints, you have set up errors on your pc.

Raw/Tiff is the format to play with.
"Play" makes it sound like a kid's game.
RAW -> TIF is the way to experiment on.
Every once in a while you will see this happen. Somebody shows a file that is poorly exposed, and they complain that they just can't get good photos. A good Photoshop expert takes the file, and manipulates it until it looks pretty good. Then another Photoshop expert will take that and manipulate it a little more to squeeze an excellent image out.
That would make a good challenge contest.
