All my strobes come with Male/Female cables, which makes perfect sense: Female go to the camera, male to the strobe. I recently upgraded to 580 from my Vivitars and was so sure 580 obeys the same as on the strobes so I even did not bother to look before a photoshoot.
So on the location I pulled my radiotriggers only to discover the battery in the transmitter died. No problem I have my long PC cords with me. But....:eyes. You can imagine my expression when I tried to insert a male PC end into the flash.
Good thing that a Vivitar with its special cable still was with me.
Why would Canon make the PC port on the flash the same as on the camera ? An where can I find a long PC male to male cable ?

Every flash I've ever used has a female PC connector (including the vivitars if you install the metal foot with built in PC port). Male to Male PC cables are therefore very common. I've never owned a male/female PC cable.
