I found a pretty damn big dust particle in my 70-200 2.8 one day, about 9 months after I bought it from this really good dealer here in Seoul.

I brought it to him and he said he'd take care of it and sure enough, I am looking at it right now. No charge, no hassle, no dust. It took about a week and was serviced by a Canon repair facility.

Is Canon a great company everywhere in the world?

Hi ijohnson!
Help! Could you please tell me the name, address, and phone number if possible to get to your great canon dealer? I've got a sick canon and I live in seoul, with no idea where to go for repair. I'd also appreciate any basic subway directions to the dealer.

Hope to hear from you!
Thanks in advance!

I would never make them take the lens apart because of the dust particle.

When it has been put together in japan they checked its optical performance. When they disassembled it, cleaned it and put it together again, they wouldn't do it and there's a very good chance that some of the elements will be out of alignment and the lens will be softer.

firstly, this is an assumption cause they are obviously lemons out there.

that's the point of either going back to canon or a canon authorized repair facility - cause they know what they're doing, and will (ok, should) do it right.

If you've ever been to their "authorized repair facility", then you'd have an entirely different opinion.

Only time I dealed with Canon Australia , i was asking about a recalibration. The lady said she could talk me through fixing it. I was like its a mechanical problem. Didnt have a clue what she was on about. Then the guy I talked to told me to send it in. I gave up.
