I think this is a Ladder-Back, but I thought it was primarily a cactus nesting bird.

The ladder back has very strong black and white markings on its face. I think this is a red-bellied.

Looks like a red-bellied woodpecker to me. The 'hair' standing up is the key identifier for me.

They are found in the North and Eastern parts of Texas.
