Spent an enjoyable day with fellow POTN, Geoff. The temperature was colder than anticipated and the light was rubbish. Most of the shots were at ISO 640. Still learning the 120-300 but I now feel I am getting better results than I did with that other lens, the white one.

I still feel I can improve of the post processing. Maybe someone local may like to give me a dem of Capture One

Here are the photos and please give me some feedback.

Hi Petrolhead, my comment on Geoff's thread applies here also I feel; just a lack of variety and action. Nowt wrong technically just not alot going on really, in a number of them there's nothing to say that the cars are actually at competitive speeds.

Also a few are cropped too tightly for me.

Apologies if I've come over a bit critical!

Always appreciate feedback good or bad. I would agree that ther are a tad on the boring side and thats probably down to two things, the postion I . was at on the stage and the shutter speed.

At the mo I am concentrating on getting a technically good shots over being creative while I get used to the lens

Only the same position and angles make shots a bit boring.
I try to learn how to make technically acceptable shots over creativity too. One thing what i do quite often is, i try to find past year incar videos from rallies and try to locate interest places for photography and also looking another shooters shots from past.

A good attempt with the new gear. like the shot of Ivor Lamont #4, and the stones in #1,2,3. I like #3 the only thing is the glare on the windscreen and bonnet!

Suprised to hear you had issues with the light, I didnt move my ISO from 100 all day long. I initially suspected you may have been in the tress but from the look of the location you have posted it seems to be pretty open.

Looking at the EXIF, I noticed a couple of the shots were taken at f/10 & f/13 ... maybe time to shoot with a slightly shallower DOF and dial down the ISO?

Well I started at ISO640 and ended up at ISO200. I just did not keep my eye on the F number slowly climbing :)

I tell you what Peter. I'll let you find the shooting spots next time as it seems i'm crap at it.

At least you've posted shots that are in focus, which is more than some on here manage.

Good shots Peter, you seem to be getting the hang of the new gear.

Took me a couple of run outs with 120-300 to get to grips with it. I'm a lot happier with the lens now as I'm sure sure you are. Thought we might bump in to you chaps, even made extra sarnies just in case!;):D

You guys parked beside start also? We were early and hadn't realised that you could park up at the farm, sign pointed to start area, which would've saved our legs a bit! Worked out we must've covered 7 miles!

So yes could have cut out a chunk but the may have missed another good stop to watch/take photos

We were 3 or 4 cars back from you so we probably only missed you by a very short time.

Nice set Peter. Those Sigma 120-300 2.8s seem the business. Hope your car never got stone chipped as bad as mine off the track in. The bottom of my n/side door looks like it took it took machine gun fire.

Not bad mate not bad. I'd only comment same as others already have. All a bit samey. The glare on the windscreen is a right pain in the. I've had that a few times before, not sure if a polariser would help much? I've not got round to trying one yet.

Seems a popular lens the 120-300, but like anything takes a bit of getting used to. Much better than your first set I remember!

A polariser just causes its own problems. Strange patterns in the windscreen, loss of AF performance, loss of 1 stop....and then there's the actual cost of a 105mm filter for the 120-300 !
