Competed in a sheepdog trial today. When I was not out on the field I got the camera out. This pic was taken at least 100 yds. away. That is not noise or a dusty lens in the pic--its raindrops!

I've done two days of agility photography in the rain, and I had the same problem with the drops showing up sometimes. So I know what you mean.
Nice capture. I've got a herding shot where the sheep went vertical and is well above the Bouvier herding at the time. It was across the arena so not all that great, but still interesting.

Thanks Mike,
I was pretty pleased with what I got overall today. My percentage of keepers was up. More pics in focus and better exposure. Getting better!
I shot only with the 100-400L today.

I love my 100-400 as well and use it quit a bit for stuff like this. Here is the picture I mentioned above. It was taken with the 70-200 4.0L before I got the 2.8L version and the 100-400 lens. This breed of sheep were real skishish around the Bouviers and a few either went over the fence or through it to get away from them. I missed the ones where they went over or through the fence though as I wasn't expecting it and wasn't ready. You have to be ready if you want to get the good shots. :D

So, that was a sheepdog trial, huh?
Was the sheepdog found guilty or innocent?

Nice crisp pic of sheep in midair. I particularly like the dog's intensity.

Excellent capture.
Regarding flying sheep as MP said. "They don't so much fly.....as plummet!"
