I'm sporting a little bit of everything, from Paul Oakenfield to Snoop Dogg to Frank Sinatra to Muse. Fill in between if you want :-p.

Honestly I don't have it with me right now, and as I have a mini i don't have my entire iTunes library. I'll update later.

Well, I don't have one yet,.. But from the looks of your "looking to house" list,. you may want to give "The Gypsy Kings" a serious look,.. Start with "love and Liberty"

ipod. Nah.
I do use my Dell Axim for mp3s though, therby avoiding Apple's annoying DRM. Windows Media Player 10 on there for the music (a large selection of random crap from Collective Soul to Wierd Al). And being a PDA it does a whole slew of things the ipod won't.

I can't resist music threads...

I carry my music round on a sub-notebook (Panasonic CF-T1) which I also DJ off. Currently, I am listening raptly to:

Venetian Snares
Wintersleep
Wordsworth
Seven Ark
10cc (singalong classics!)
Phil Ochs
Minor Threat
Tim Hardin
The Decemberists
Skinnyman
Remembering Never
Rilo Kiley (very poppy album, More Adventurous)
Athletic Mic League
Tom Paxton
All Girl Summer Fun Band
Architecture In Helsinki (new album, lovely!)

+ too many others to list. But I have to have everything by Laughing Lenny Cohen, Kraftwerk and The Monkees.

Just realised there's a lot of 60s US folkies in the above list, must be a hippy phase I'm going through! :)

Oh yeah! I went on their forum and they're such friendly blokes, completely mellow and not stuck-up at all. Positive people making wonderful positive music.

Definitely one of the top albums of last year. Mind you, Outerspace, Skinnyman, Rodney P, 7L & Esoteric, Eyedea & Abilities.... good year for hip hop. :)

That's the Basquiat book, innit? Sorry, I've not read it. But knowing a bit of his work, I'd recommend:

Scritti Politti - Early
De La Soul - 3ft High
And perhaps the first Tom Tom Club album?

Sorry, slightly random there, just going on the art flow... :)

jyoti: don't worry. you know you're getting older when the 80's is considered retro and duran, duran goes on tour again.

I'm not worried: I was 14 in 1980, it's my generation. :)

I still remember the excitement I felt buying 'Speak & Spell,' 'Computerworld,' 'Penthouse & Pavement' and 'Dare.' And I still get that with new bands now, thank god!

It is strange seeing times/music you lived through first-hand being re-packaged craply and inaccurately.

Now I know what all the old hippies used to moan at me about when I bought 60s compilations as a kid! :D

(Now listening to the golden tones of Mr. Al Bowlly...ahhhh. Now that's retro.)

Just to show you how retro I am 49 and Al Bowlly was my mothers favourite artist :D

I grew up on Al Bowlly and Ray Noble's New Mayfair Dance Orchestra and he had been dead for 15 years when I was born.

Great to see a list of underground stuff, Kyle! And someone else who's a fan of 'Daphne Loves Derby.' I only found them by accident, because of where I live! :D

I'm going to save your list and check out all the bands I haven't heard off, which is 80% of them!

Ahhh, if only I could sing like Al...sniffIt's thanks to Dennis Potter's 'Pennies From Heaven' that I got into '30s music. I got the 3CD soundtrack album and it was chocker with amazing pop songs. I've been a little bit obsessed ever since.
