Hi All,
I want to experiment on studio portraits. Can stage lighting be used for studio portraits? Virgin Records is going out of business and they have a dozen of these.

What do you think? Will it work?

Any light can be used.
These seem like they would get very hot. In a small studio your subject might start to bake.
I would jump on them for props though.

Good point about heating. That means I should add cooling. =)
The lamps are $65 each. Is that a good price?

Even if they don't throw enough light to be used as lighting instruments, they'd make a great prop in a shot...

$65 for each head or $65 for the whole unit as seen in the pic above?
Personally if they were for the total unit I would go for it, if it is per head and the stand and cross bracket are separate I would probably pass.
Which Virgin is it?

The lamps are $65 each. The stand is not available. So it is just the lamp host itself. Then, is still a good deal?
Where do I buy some lighting lamps for studio portraits? Sorry, I am so new at this.

With that setup, depending on how close the lights are to the person, you could have 4 different shadows on the model. What's best is ONE BIG light...you'll be using 4 small ones.
Just my opinion.

The larger the light source the softer the light. These appear to spotlights.

You guys have a good point. Lights are spot lighting so it would not be great for main source. Is there anything I can use spotlights?

Might be good for a hairlight or fill, but can you adjust the output.

Too expensive to be worth it for novelty use.
