http://joebloggs.servebeer.com/v8supercars/img_0611.jpg To show I'm not biased against Fords. (much)
http://joebloggs.servebeer.com/v8supercars/img_0759.jpg Lovely...
http://joebloggs.servebeer.com/v8supercars/img_0670.jpg Preparing for liftoff...
http://joebloggs.servebeer.com/v8supercars/img_0674.jpg Ouch!

lesson learned today: 5 litre V8 is faster than auto-focus speed of 100-400L on a D60.

now, if I could maybe convince someone I needed an upgrade...

Nice shots there.

Where were you shooting from?
With those crops, looks the same as where I was, but then I don't recall seeing a placemakers sign.. Was that turn 3/4?

it looks like there was a bunch of us there, in the same location :) it would seem that getting a PTON neck strap might be a good idea.

Better yet, there are clearly enough of us here, lets organise a days shooting.

And Im afraid your photos are really bad, time for a new camera ;)
Actualy they are bloody good! I would be surprised if even a 1d can keep up with a SuperCar.

interesting you say that, I found it really hard to try and pan, coming out of the hairpin I would hate to think how fast they are goin.

I had a offical photographer stand by me with a 70-200 with what looked like a 2x converter and another camera with 100-400 on it. then later on I saw someone with what looked like a 400 f2 :)

that's when my brother said, "you need a lens like that, na it's too big" :) there is no such as a lens that is to big

Am I the only one in Auckland who didnt go!

From my limited experiance on the track I would guess they are exiting the hairpin at well over 100kph.
My kit car that weighed about 750kgs with 100hp was exiting there in 3rd, which has to be about 70kph, then hitting 120-130kph before the long sweeper. The Super cars are imangiably faster, and I think are pushing 200kph around the sweeper.
I know I had to find 2nd to apex the hair pin, so thats about 40-50kph.
(its quite a fast hairpin).
But its not the velocity thats the problem, its the accleration, which is only compounded if they are coming towards you.

Im going to have to get some of my Balloon photos up, make it look I did something interesting this weekend.

Good work, enjoyed the photos in both posts immensely.
Are you sure the third one here wasn't the San Diego freeway???

Yes you are. :p
It was the supposedly the last V8 race around here for a while

Looking at that map from Joeseph, I was exactly at that point also.
Friday I shot up and down there, easy access, not many people.
Saturday, I was right in the middle of the sweeper. And yesterday, the morning I was behind camera 8, 100 metres left, closer to the hairpin, but on the corner. And later in the day, I met up with V6Goose by chance, and we shot from the hairpin on the right side, and also the last 10 laps we shot from the 100m braking zone coming down the back straight. Right next to those tow trucks. I'll see if I can upload a few when I get home in 30min. :p
