While anyone who was anyone was up at Hamilton for the Aussie V8 race the lucky ones amongst us had managed to miss all of the assignments and grabbed a day off. Don't get me wrong it is a great venue and race, but at the end of the NZ season I've seen most of them 10 times already .... time for a few weeks off and some different racing.
And what did I do with this day ... Well the weather was just perfect, one of the best days I can remember. So as not to let it go to waste I drove out to the local kart track for the club day.
How perfect was the weather .... Well after shooting the massive (read 26) field of competitors, it was that perfect I waved a flags on point 4 for the afternoon just to be outside.
Enough of the waffle ... Here are the pictures
1. Open Class 125cc - Glen Galway. Just returned to racing after a few years off. A bit rusty on the corners but a bullet on the straights

2. Junior Restricted (no tuned exhaust on the Yamaha engine) - Charlotte Oram. The backgrounds can be naff so DOF shots tidy everything up but kill the sensation of speed - a light bending 1/2500 - F/2.8 - ISO100

3. Stephen Taylor in the Yamaha Junior Class - Same kart and engine as No2 above but with the tuned exhaust giving a bunch more power. The black spot is a piece of tyre heading for the scenery.

4. It also good to find a new angle - This was from half way up the steps to the flag tower at the start finish straight - 300 mm panned at 1/80

5. I liked the idea so this time from the top of the steps - 300mm - ISO 100 - 1/80 - F/14. If I had to pick a shot to go with my day, I'd choose this one

6. At his point I got a bit carried away and tried to get them stacked up coming through the corner - 300mm - 1/50 - F/18 - ISO 100 - a tad too much paralax

7. Okay so now I'm turning in to a one trick pony but I wondered what happened if I got longer in to the corner - 420mm - 1/50 - F/16 - ISO100

After that I had an agreeable lunch with a friend, waved flags and watched the racing. I'm sure others had a more intersting day.
Any comments more sensible than mine are always welcomed.
Cheers Dave
