My name is Cait. I just got my camera, a Canon Digital Rebel! I have been pining for one for as long as they have been in existence! I am so excited. I thought I would join a forum to see what everyone else is doing in the wonderful world of taking photographs. I have been into photography since I was a kid, (8 actually). My first camera was a Polaroid Instamatic. I had fun with it, and still got some of my kid shots. Then I moved onto a Minolta SLR camera kit when I was in High school and university. It got real old, so I had to get a new one... Since university I have had 2 Canon SLR's The Canon Rebel, which I gave to my sister, when I bought a new Canon 3000N which I currently own, and now, finally, a Canon Digital Rebel. And somewhere in there I have owned a KODAK D12 (if memory serves), which was a Digital point and shoot, upon which I spent beaucoup de dollars at the time when Digital was still up and coming. It is this camera with which I took this self portrait with. I have to say I am proud of it, because it is in its raw format, I had to use a tissue to keep the flash from showing up, and perhaps this is why the colour came out the way it did. Its a lucky shot, of myself, with no post edits, except for making it small to upload. I just thought I would introduce myself and show off this shot, see what everyone thinks.

:D Cheers,

Cait, welcome to the world of Rebels! As for the lighting, I like the side lighting and think it is a great bonus to find your silhouette on the off side as a result of it. If that is what was planned then bravo on the result. The tilt throws me off a bit although I'm sure there are those who find it a unique feature. It might appeal to me even more if you moved yourself a bit more toward the center.....maybe a third of the way rather than a fourth. Also, a larger pic would enable everyone to observe your obvious beauty a bit more easily. Whatever the blue thing is, I'd remove it from the picture to keep it from distracting from you. Obviously you took some time to set this up and I think a couple of changes and it would be perfect! Those are my thoughts...and everyone has their own as to what appeals to the eye. Good job! - Tom

Welcome to the forums. Excellent photo. I like the lighting, the shadow profile, and the tilt. The light immediately drew my eye to you as the object of the picture and I never noticed the blue flower(?). It all works real well for me. A larger version would be good say twice this size...

Hey all, thanks for your replies... and thanks for welcoming me too... I will try to find the original from before I made it smaller and post it again larger, shortly... I went so small because I was afraid it would take too long to download... esp. for us modem users.

Thanks again, and
Cheers!
