View Full Version : Blogs - why have one when you've got a website?

I've considered opening up a blog to link to my photos and talk about them like many other people do but I couldn't really see enough advantages over linking straight to my flickr. Obviously everyone's different but it seems a lot of photographers, especially wedding and event photographers, have blogs that eventually lead to their website. So my question is, what's your main reason for having a blog? When do you link to it instead of your flickr/website's homepage?

A blog is up to date 95% of the time. How often do most photographers update their website??
Usually I see photographers posting photos from current sessions so it keeps fresh work in front of people. A blog let's past clients and potential clients get to know you on a more personal level. Some photogs have even gone to just using the blog as a their website. It's kinda like a blog-site.
The big one that I know of that has done this is Jessica Claire - http://www.jessicaclaire.net/

That's actually a really nice site. What makes it work is her stories and little notes behind every photo and like you said, it helps potential clients get to know her on a more personal level to know she watches and enjoys the weddings rather than just shooting the whole time.
Anyone else?

My main page is a Wordpress Blog - www.blackshadow.com.au - it lets me keep things fresh with what I have been shooting lately and allows for some other comment on things like equipment or issues as well. I also have my photo galleries which are hosted on smugmug at this stage but accessible from my wordpress page and vice/versa.
