Hi, I'm wanting to know if you can turn off the box when you hover over a thread? I find it quite annoying.

I think you'll find that it can only be canged by setting up your system to disable tooltips (which will affect all applications that use them, not just POTN)
Google for "disable tooltips" to get more information on this. You'll most probably have to make changes to your Registry, so make sure of what you're doing first.

I'm quite sure it's a feature in vBulletin since other vBulletin powered forums don't have this.

You can keep your cursor out of the threads column most of the time to avoid the tip popping-up, but if you are feeling lucky, follow the instructions I found here:
http://www.macosxtips.co.uk/index_files/disable-tooltips-safari-firefox.html (http://www.macosxtips.co.uk/index_files/disable-tooltips-safari-firefox.html)
For Firefox:
If you want to disable tooltips in Firefox, start by typing about:config into the address bar. In the list that appears, find browser.chrome.toolbar_tips. An easy way to find it is to start typing browser.chro into the filter box. Once you have found the item, double-click on it to change it from true to false. Now when you are browsing, tooltips should be disabled. Simply double-click again to change things back.
They are mac tips and you will change a browser.chrome.toolbar_tips value, but they worked on my Firefox and WindowsXP Professional.
You will see the big warning displayed below while tampering there, so be careful and do it at your own risk.
There are ‘global’ changes to disable tool tips on all applications as Pete said, too.
Good luck

I've seen people complain about this on other vBulletin-powered forums, and I don't understand why. It's a great way to preview a thread without clicking into that thread. In fact, I wish about twice as much text was included. Seems to save a lot of navigation time. Don't like it? Don't mouseover in the thread title area.
One forum I look at has it turned off and it just makes the whole site seem harder to use, or a least a little bit slower because of the extra navigation/clicking required to see if you're interested in a thread.

and, yes, that's why it is usually left on.
It's an on or off thing. If we ask Pekka to turn it off, it affects everyone. It can't be tailored just for those that don't want it.

I like this feature, I usually judge whether to read the thread or not by these and it bugs me when threads are started off with the immortal words of "I'm not sure if this is in the right place or not..." as I then don't know what the thread's about! ;)
