Before I ventured out this afternoon I pondered on which lens to stick on as I didn't fancy carrying all that much, I decided on the 70-200 with the 1.4xII just in case. Whilst driving around the coast I spotted a Kestrel hovering, I quickly abandened the car at the side of the road and walked towards the bird. I managed to fire off a couple of shots before it flew off some distance away from me, it was then I saw it dive into the undergrowth and quickly emerge with it's prey. Even with the 1.4 extender on it was just too far away to get a decent shot :(. Oh well at least I have some evidence of the kill, here's an extreme crop of one of the shots with lot's of sharpening.

Next outing I'll make sure I'll have both camera bodies with the 100-400/1.4x on one of them!

Hey thats great even though its not clear. I just wish I had my camera with me and ready when we saw a Hawk carring this HUGE snake. It was so heavy that he was finding it difficult to take it away. He only managed to get it off the ground when he flew off the side of the hill.:)

That's really cool. Is that a rat he has? Its the only thing I can think of with a long skinny tail like that.

Kestrels are not that big so comparing the sizes I don't think it's a rat, most likely a field mouse or similar.
