I was out & about in my neighborhood and stumbled upon this wood pecker making a hole in a tree for he & his mate. I don't usually take photos of birds, but I thought this was interesting... I was carrying my 70-200 f/4 at the time. These photos have been cropped & enhanced on PhotoShop... sorry about the quality, I had to save them at low quality in order to keep within the 100kb file size.

Do you know what type of woodpecker that is? I was out today and saw the same kind. I'm not very good with my bird species..

I have a wood up the road from where i live,with a couple of Wood peckers.I did try to take a pic of them but where ever i was they were the other side of the wood :evil: .I know where they're hole in the tree is,so i'll go and sit in a bush and play the waiting game :lol:

This is "our" version in North London. It's a very different bird. Taken with the thick end of a 100-300 Non usm very old lens.

Those are pretty cool...I guess that is why you should always have your camera around just in case you run across something interesting...

Those things are so annoying. So noisy.
Actually, I like the noise they make while "hammering" trees.
