A friend recently designed me a website for my Birthday. Now that I've had a chance to update it with my latest pictures, I'm curious what you think of the site.

I know the gallery page is a little confusing, but I'm in the process of fixing it.

Not to be the party pooper, excuse the pun, I think that the display settings on the site need to be adjusted slightly. When viewed in IE 8 and FF 3.08 it is not displaying properly, it seems that the margins and centering need to be adjusted because half of the page is cut off.
Secondly you need to display the scroll properties on the main page because when someone scrolls the page goes crazy.
Overall I like the color scheme of the site. With a few adjustments it will be great.

I like the style of it and I think you have some great pictures:)

here is what I don't like(just my opinion):
I don't like how I have to scroll down(I'm lazy). I think it throws everything off when you don't have a smooth transition to the next page.
I didn't like how I was see the same pictures(diff treatments) or even just a whole bunch of pictures that were almost exactly alike. If you don't want to toss them at least split them up.

other than that I think everything else is good:)

Hmm...I've tried it in a few different browsers, haven't had any issues with things getting cut off. The scrolling is annoying, and I'm looking at changing that a bit. :P

Thanks for the comments

Just my opinion, but the "intro" page is a bad idea. All you're doing is hurting your SEO and not adding to your site. Skip the intro and go directly to your real home page, its a great site .. why are you hiding it?

Agreed. I liked the website except the intro page.

About the SEO, I'm curious as how that would affect things?

I've always liked the intro page as a place for people to get a feel for what the site is about.

The front page is weighted slightly higher in search results. If the page only has 1 link you're decreasing your own PR with relation to your internal links.

Remember the purpose is to make your site inviting so they look further into it. Not to show off your HTML or Photoshop skills.

EDIT: I love the page, and I think it should be used as it shows a very nice page design for a book, but it doesn't belong as your "homepage".

id have to say the front page looks great, it feels inviting as i want to explore more because of the nice photos, truth be told, if it were a page with all text and no glamour, id go on looking for another site. if i were looking for a photographer, id be looking for images because they tell me everything.

Just out of curiosity...what hosting site is this? I like it all, but find the "intro" page unnecessary. Because I was actually looking into the site, i obviously looked in. But if I had to stumble across this page or given a link by a friend I would close it out cause of the intro page. To me it just cays that the website will take forever to load for me and I should bother. I love the rest and beautiful pictures!

the intro page would be more successful if it wasn't flash (if you really feel the needs to keep it). it's like a long road (your site) and that has a road block at the beginning of it (the flash intro page). the web bots will have a difficult time getting pasted the flash. regardless of that all your site is to them is:

BIlly McVicker Photography | NH Photogrpahy | Family portraits
come inside (link)
copyright 2009 Billy McVicker. All Rights Reserved.

web bots don't see photos, and only having the one link (embeded in the flash) they might not even see that. i agree it's a photography site and images should out weight text, but as far as SEO and being found you need more.

Alright, I've been in the process of putting together some more content for the intro page, or possibly scrapping it altogether. Going to experiment some more I guess.
