Other than the extra buckle and the velcro "silencers" is there any reason I should spend the extra $40-$50 for the new version over the old.

I think that was pretty much the only difference....
Do you happen to really like any of the new colorways? :)

I own the bag and see no velcro silencers.

Under the velcro.
Go for the old. It's supposedly bigger as well some have reported. They say the new one feels smaller although they can get the same amount in. Check my thread, it's been in debate for awhile.

_aravena, since you seem to be the "Crumpler man" How do you think the gear in my sig would fit in the 6MDH? I'm planning on adding a 1.4 tc and extension tubes to the list soon, as well as a CPL Grad ND's with Cokin holder, remote release, extra battery etc that I already have. Would the 7 be a better fit? I have a tendency to "bring it all" when I go out shooting. I would prefer a bag that would hold it all even though I'm usually carrying the camera with a lens attached.

I'd recommend a 7MDH for you jsinon.
I owned the 6MDH and had less gear than you.

Given the current price difference between the two, I'd go with the older style. The new ones look nice, but not nice enough to spend an extra $40-$50!

I only had the choice of the new style when I bought mine.
I like the idea of the 2 straps though. It matches the old bag I was using. Gives easy access while allowing it to be closed at one end.

I am leaning heavily towards the "old" style 7MDH. I really like the new gray/red and unlike most I actually like the lime green interior, just $50 is too much just for a color. If only someone out there wanted to part with one.......;)

jeev has good prices for the crumpler bags here and on FM.
I've owned a lot of different brands, but Crumpler just hits the spot for me.
I have two and may grab a backpack soon, too.

What he said. That's a good amount of stuff. I only use my strap on the 7MDH but somtimes not even that and I just have the flap down since I've covered the velcro. Does fine. Never thought twice about it.

There are significant improvement from old to new. New one is sleek and does not look like a diaper bag:lol:

The one thing I do not like about my old 7 MDH with one strap, is that when lifting the bag by the handle on the flap with the buckle and strap secured, the bag tends to open up on the ends exposing the contents to the elements. I would think that the two straps would help to eliminate this.

I think both are of the same size but with 2 buckles and more slack you can pack more in the 2009 version.

I like the Black/Oatmeal so I went for the old one. The new one has grey or some ugly neon green interior.

i picked up the old version of the 7mdh from steepandcheap.com few weeks ago for a ridiculous price of $55 shipped. i have the red version. i like it. the two ends do lift up some when picked up by the handle. i'm wondering if its possible to retrofit two clips to the side and remove the center one but i'm no wiz with the sewing machine.

jsinon - If sold on the Crumplers go for at least the 7mdh. I bought the 6 and immediately returned it. The bag is big on the outside but very small on the inside. The padding is WAY overkill and takes up a lot of the interior. It didn't help that my camera has a grip on it. I hope you like Velcro because there is a ton of it. Zippers would have been a much better option. I would get the second generation just for the Velcro silencers - not to silence them but to eliminate them.
