I want to take a picture of a friend holding a piece of light fabric blowing in the wind. My problem however, is the lack of wind.

I don't have the money to buy a fancy fan or something, so would a strong piece of cardboard with someone fanning it back and forth work? (I doubt it, but I've never tried before.)

Any ideas on generating some wind? Thanks :)

I think using any fan will work. You don't need a fancy wind blower. A target or kmart fan will work just fine. If lucky can find a nice used one on craigslist for super cheap or free.

In a recent studio shoot, we forwent the wind machine for a piece of stiff card to generate wind, it was much easier to time the gust for a shot and would generate a fresh gust each time rather than a constant blast which blew everything away.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll use a large piece of cardboard and have an assistant wave it. :)
