Big hi to all the Canon users , from Singapore here , my maiden post to share some of my tilt shift shots.
Done with mix match of a Mirex T/S Mamiya adapter and a variety of old M645 Mamiyas, or my adapted Nikon t/s lenses with my 5D MkII

I agree with Kosin, #1 is a total beauty, congratulations on that. The rest are very strange, the use of tilt-shift for street & people shots is at least weird I would have to say I don't like those.
I have a theory that anybody named Ryan is a great photographer.

I personally like the tilt shift with people. It gives some interest to the areas you want it. I think otherwise the rest of the photo would be distracting. Great shots!

I don't think these are strange applications at all and encourage you to take more shots in this style. Definitely an application I had not thought possible with TS lenses. Whenever someone posts a tilt-shift example it's always of a mini-city street or a landscape with a very thin DOF or to some effect.
I think this is unique and new, people photography with a TS lens and well applied with #1 for sure

I do shoot "normally" as well . t.s started out with a little fascination of those miniaturisations but after a while I am seeing to explore the other ways of using tilt in daily shooting.
meanwhile I will happy "hide"my t.s and alternative stuffs in this experimental section :D
Here is another to share.

#1 #3 and #7. I love them and interested in what shift-tilt is? More specifically, Is this something I could do with my SX10? I think I read that it's an application, I suppose an editing tool? And it looks like panoramic played a part in some?

I've never before seen street photography done with a T/S lens. Some come out great, some not so great. It's definitely a very unique look and you can definitely make your subjects pop. I like em.

Thanks for commenting Angdvl089.
I used to restrict my T/S lenses to landscapes and buildings and stuffs. But since then I have been trying out other experimental ways of using them. Must admit it is still pretty much in infancy, especially ... manual focusing and shooting streets .. does look a little surreal at times from the unnatural dof, but definitely better control and IQ compared to lensbabies.
I am a pretty new Canon user, so I haven gotten hold a nice EF Canon lens yet, meanwhile, let me hone my manual focusing

#14 is nice. It's really serene, but I think there's tension because the sun is oncoming on the left, and behind you on the right. But somehow, the tilt-shift ties them together.

I like the first one, but I'm not sure about the street level shots. I think tilt shift pics work best when taken at an angle looking down. Luckily I work on an eighth floor office in a city centre with some big windows, opportunities are rife!

Ryan, I'm very intrigued with your work here. Well done.
Would you be willing to offer more information about the equipment you're using with your 5DII? Adapters and particular lenses? Depending on the cost, this may solve my continuing desire to use more TSE's.

Hi ken2000ac.
I was a previous Nikon user, but got over to Canon because Mirex gave me the option to cross mount cheaper Mamiya lenses as tilt shift lenses. ( ok i still use my nikon system on and off ) Canon having a shorter flange focusing distance compared to Nikon, had enough room for the German engineers to come up with this fantastic adapter.
I use a Mirex tilt shift adapter ( the Mamiya m645 - EF mount version ) on my 5DMk2. The lenses I use are definitely cheaper than Canon or Nikon's own offerings. Lenses I have used with the tilt shift adapter includes :
- Mamiya 24mm f4 FE ( a little hard to scout for one )
- Mamiya 50mm f4 shift
- Mamiya 55mm f2.8
- Mamiya 35mm f3.5
- Mamiya 150mm f2.8
I fit via adapters my old Nikon 85mm PC as well as my even older 28mm Schneider Super Angulon PC. I sold off my Nikon 24mm PCE.

Interesting work. The last two shots are excellent. The images have a model like appearance to them because of the focusing structure in the frame. I shot Mamiya for a while and loved it. The lenses are very nice and pennies on the dollar compared to 10 years ago. Not to mention you can use them on a 645 camera anytime!

Hello, my good friend!
Glad to see your collection here.
I suddenly had this uncontrollable urge to lay my hands on a TS.
Was thinking of the Canon TS 17mm, because I have the TC 1.4x which can be used to convert it into a 24mm.
Can I ask you how different, from your experience, is the Canon TS 17mm from the set up that you are using, in any and/or every aspect?
Thank you in advance for your advice.

the 50mm f4 is a beautifully made tank, and resolves very well on the 5d2 sensor

Exactly :) My set of mamiyas costs me less than what my PCE 24mm 3.5 costs me ( when it was first launched )

Hi doc, nice to talk to ya again. ( bulk of my usual travel shots are still non fancy t/s stuffs, fancy t/s stuffs only for the occassion )
TSE 17mm gives you the widest option. The widest rectilinear Mamiya M645 is only 35mm ( i think ) , and the Mamiya 24mm is a fisheye.
The Mirex gives 15mm shift and 10 degree tilt ( how much you can get depends on the lenses you fix onto )
The TSE 17mm gives 6.5 degree tilt and 12mm shift ( which is still alot )
The interesting thing about the newer TSE lenses is independent adjustment of tilt and shift axis. ( Older TSE and the current Nikon lenses require abit more handy work and unscrewing and opening up the lens to change axis )
One important thing to note is the axis of Mirex is fixed - The axis of tilt is forever parallel to the shift. I came from using the prev nikon lenses to know i want it that way.

Hehe... don't call me like that leh... Ryan.
We're all ga-gee-nang. Hahaha...
I noticed all these TS set ups are MF.
Correct me if I am wrong - all TS must be thus, meaning, only MF and no AF. Right?
I have no other lenses like what you have listed (Mamiya, Mierx etc. etc.). Thus a TS adaptor for me would be of no use. And I may have to look seriously into a single TS-E lens.
The TS 17mm's front element really bulges out and knowing the way I use my gears, I fear for its safety.
The TS 24mm certainly appears better protected due to its front element reciding further in.
You know something, Ryan... the effects of a TS on both landscape photography and even street/portrait photography is pretty close to my own style.
I am a UWA person and I have my UWA permanently mounted on the camera on my left hip. I would certainly love to consider the option of a TS lens to be mounted on the camera on my right hip. (Hahaha... you must be thinking that I am a joker..)
But just that the MF sort of puts me off. Yes, I am very much an AF person, as you would have guessed by now.
So don't know lah... how?

There is no AF t/s lenses to date i think. But yup doing streets offers a unique challenge with much more misses ( but liveview definitely helps in certain situations ) . My street shooting with non t/s lenses has always been more of manual focusing / prefocusing type, good practice for more fiddling tilted ;)
I tell u what I think the answer is buy it la :mrgreen::mrgreen:
