It's my favorite subject - this was taken at work. I had to do some post processing since I didn't have a fill flash, and I wanted to *not* blow out the sky, so C&C is appreciated.

I didn't have a fill flash, and I wanted to *not* blow out the sky Here's a crop suggestion & rough edit using Blend Modes. I selected the sky, so the exposure on the car hasn't been changed.

If you could have waited 'till later & angled the car to get the sunset in the side, it would have had more interesting highlights in the side.

On my monitor, at least, the car is too dark. Also the transition at the mountains and sky doesn't look so good. You might try to use a little softer brush for the masking.

Not sure if the Rebel XSi has the ability to shoot RAW but if It does I would suggest shooting in that. You can save alot lighting and highlight wise in Photoshop or Lightroom. Otherwise I would say to definitely use some fill lighting.
Or what "PhotosGuy" stated, Wait till sun set and angle the car to have the car lit by the sun. ( here in AZ you can take advantage of the cool orange and yellow lighting) But if the background is important and the sun is opposite of the subject try shooting it early morning.

I haven't tried my hand at RAW yet but I will give it a shot. Maybe I should get practice now before my trip to Ireland in July.

I think it looks better with the shadows lifted a little and a tighter crop to get rid of the clutter on the right, am just saying what Frank said ? Probably am.

Thanks, Mick. I haven't figured out the whole 'blending' yet, so my sky isn't as vivid as in Frank's version, but I tried to bring up the shadows in mine. What do you think? Is it a realistic representation? I found if I was overzelous, it started to look bad, almost like it was dropped in place. Probably because I'm working on the layer of the car only. Important lesson learned - try RAW, and buy a good light, so all this work can be avoided to being with :-)
Also, just for fun, I'm posting what the original looked like ...
